In a preview of Tuesday’s outdoor Winter Classic in Buffalo, the Pens hosted the Sabres at the Igloo. Ty Conklin earned his first shutout, as an early 2nd period goal by Colby Armstrong held up in a 2-0 win. The down side to the win was Gary Roberts leaving with a broken fibula in the 2nd period. With Max Talbot still on IR, it stands to reason a forward will be called up from Wilkes Barre-Scranton, as they would have 20 on the 23 man roster with Roberts, Eaton, Fleury and Talbot on IR.

On the 7th anniversary of Mario Lemieux’s comeback in 2000, The Pens hosted the Capitals for the 2nd of 4 meetings. The Pens would lead 1-0 and 2-1 but had to crawl back from a 3-2 deficit late in the 3rd period for a 4-3 overtime win. Continue reading ‘Pens outlast Caps in OT, 4-3, as Gonchar gets winner’
During a rally in Pakistan a suicide bomber killed almost a dozen people including wounding former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. The MSM has been reported as critically injured by shrapnel and in surgery. She is now being reported as dead. Some news links:

What I’ve been hearing is that a gunman approached her car, fired shots at her, and then detonated his bomb belt. She may have been shot in the neck or head before the bomb was detonated.
Found this link from little green footballs — an author at ‘Daily Kos’ has declared that because some American soldiers are allowed a Christian ministry, allowed to practice their faith while on-duty, that they are essentially crusaders, just like suicide bombers. The lizard army at lgf took a screen capture of the original post which juxtaposed a photo of a female suicide bomber with a photo of two G.I.’s holding their rifles and a set of bibles.
After some criticism trickled in, the author separated the two photos, but the content of the article itself is still a stunning example of the Left’s moral myopia. Here’s a snippet from the opening:
You might call the image, to the right, the ghost of Christmas future. Let me suggest a productive frame for the picture which depicts a parallel that is both real but which has not yet fully emerged as a dominant dynamic.
In other words, what I’m talking about is complete nonsense, but not for long!
The dynamic is that of religious war, a phenomenon that has an old and evil history especially in the Middle East.
But, that future - religious war - does not have to prevail. It is a danger as long as there are US troops in Iraq, because US troops in basic training, as detailed in a new Military Religious Freedom Foundation report, are being indoctrinated in the ideology of religious war and the cultivation of the mentality of religious war, between Christianity and Islam, is exactly what many leaders on the American Christian right and Islamic religious extremists including those of Al Qaeda want more than anything - to provoke a full blown religious war between Islam and Christianity.
Check out the lgf link and then the updated Kos article for more.

The sixth installment of old poetry is posted for the punchline. It was not titled when written, but is identified by the first line, As this day winds to a close. It did appear in the compilation Annotations of Life (the self-published booklet distributed to friends in the 1992-1994 timeframe) titled as “the end of the day”, and later with a parenthetical “or Instructions from God” added. It appears on page 122.
As this day winds to a close,
nary a thing are as they began
life, no longer simple,
explodes into its fragments
violently some strike,
eating at the mind
gently others lurk
keeping the spirit afloat
oh, but where things would be
today, yesterday, tomorrow
one huge motion picture
still rolling, scriptless
with the instructions:
"Ad lib. - GOD."

This video is prepared by Fred Thompson, though save for his name at the end, you wouldn’t know it. Classy tribute to our troops.
