SuperBowls, Green Police and Samurai
Despite the Jets being knocked out of the SuperBowl this year, I did watch the game. Having absolutely nothing at stake in the game, my family split along predictable lines. My mother sided with the Colts because one of the commentators is the father of the Colt's quarterback.
As an agent of chaos, I tend to side with the underdog -- the Saints. Who, incidentally, won the game. (Chaos 1, World 0)
The game was great, but some commercials jumped out at me. The two best appear after the jump.
Krog for NY Senate?
Yes, you heard it here first.
Krog is running for Senate. The U.S. Senate. From New York, no less. In a web-only campaign, he will run for the seat presently held by Chuck Schumer. No campaign contributions, no expenditures.
Yes, it is a long shot campaign, but if Rudy Giuliani and George Pataki can't even be coerced into running for the Gillibrand seat, then they certainly aren't running against Schumer. So enter Krog, the man man enough to join the fray!
The official campaign song? "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC.
Why has Brown not been seated?
A check of the Senate website still shows Paul Kirk (D-MA) as the junior senator from Massachusetts.
Rep. Clyburn: "We've Got To Spend Our Way Out of Recession!"
Nothing illustrates the massive gulf of understanding that exists between the Left and Right than Rep. James Clyburn's (D-SC) recent declaration that the only way to grow the economy is by going deeply into debt.
"We're not going to save our way out of this recession," the majority whip added. "We've got to spend our way out of this recession, and I think most economists know that."
I challenge Clyburn to produce evidence of a civilization that taxed itself into prosperity.

Obama SOTU Address: "I Will Not Change"
President Obama gave his first State of the Union address this past Wednesday, the transcript of which can be found online. It was interesting on a number of levels. The most anticipated question was whether Obama would use this opportunity to 'pivot' to the center politically. This was an important speech for the president considering the massive backlash his presidency is experiencing lately. Americans overwhelmingly oppose ObamaCare and feel Obama is not doing enough to create jobs.
Amazingly, Obama declared in his speech last night that he won't be pivoting, he won't be changing. It's America that's got to change. Follow the jump for more highlights.
Caprica debuts tonight on SyFy
Short and to the point. I was alerted last night by a promo during USA Network's Burn Notice that the new prequel series Caprica debuts tonight at 9pm EST on SyFy (old SciFi). The Pilot is 2 hours long, and will reair at 11pm EST, and probably again in the overnight.
Film Review: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
The movie starts out in the mid 1500's, when a Scottish weapons manufacturer is tortured for selling weapons to both sides of a conflict. After he declares that killing him won't stop his sons, or their sons from exacting revenge, the agents of the crown declare that they won't be executing him. Instead, he will be punished for his double-dealing by having a molten metal mask applied to his face.
I find that this is generally what can be expected from Scottish people.
On this day... in 2009
Today marks one year since the inauguration of Barack Obama as president of the United States. Truly, it was an historic day… but with Martin Luther King Jr. Day just two days ago… I can’t help but think that only when we are ready to stop labeling every historical event as “the first time <insert race or gender here> accomplished <insert accomplishment here>” will we truly be embracing what MLK stood for and “dreamed” about. It is then that we will truly realize we’re part of the “human race.”
On this day I’m also reminded at all the criticism levelled at the Obama administration and all the criticism levelled at the critics as well. A logical perspective can see that Obama is not perfect… but also that he is not “the answer” to all our ills. But perhaps the most disturbing criticism of the critics that I’ve heard… is that it all comes down to race. Let’s face it, there is definitely a contingent of Americans that still can’t accept that we have a black president, but every angle of criticism is certainly NOT from a racist perspective… lest we forget, the other people probably as if not MORE criticized than Obama are Pelosi and Reid… and they’re white.
