Sanford: Time to Resign.
Submitted by relantel on Wed, 07/01/2009 - 10:20I think we came to this conclusion on the original post by K, but by not resigning, S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford continues to be in the news, and it is in some outlets taking precedence over the moves of the Dems on Cap & Trade and health care. And it gets worse. Gov. Sanford had relations with women other than his wife or mistress.
Ok, did Gov. Sanford not learn the lessons of past scandal? Why encounter the pain of the original admission a week ago, if he planned to hide more and dribble it out? The lesson of political recovery? Get the pain over with. He should have resigned and admitted all one week ago. As it is, he didn't tell all, and now he looks worse than he would have looked had he told all originally.
I have questions about Sanford's character and judgment. A week ago, it was simply his judgment that was the major concern. Whatever chance at reconcilliation Sanford had with me has disappeared. I suspect I am not alone. Now, even his resignation now might not be enough to save what little chance at political future he might have had.
I don't pretend to understand why someone who had been so highly thought of by the GOP would throw everything away in the way he has. Why on earth would he even have put himself in a position where he would jeapordize everything for some temporary fun. I can't fathom it. There is nothing out there, no-one out there so alluring that I would be willing to throw away what I have. Not even worth looking. And I'm not a politician. Maybe that's the problem. I'm not a politician, so how can I understand how they think?
Governor, do yourself a favor. Do your party a favor. Resign now.
