Obama has the power to bring Obamalympics to Chicago.  What's next?

President Obama on Friday morning promised members of the International Olympic Committee that if they award the 2016 Summer Olympics to his adopted hometown “the city of Chicago and the United States of America will make the world proud."

Speaking shortly after his overnight flight from Washington touched down in Copenhagen – and hours before the committee is set to vote to select the host city for the 2016 Games – Obama assured the IOC that Chicago knows “how to put on big events," asserted that the city's diversity embodies the tenets of the Olympic movement and framed its bid for the Games as part of the United States’ re-engagement with the international community.

"I come here today as a passionate supporter of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as a strong believer in the movement they represent and as a proud Chicagoan," Obama began in his highly anticipated presentation. "But above all,” he continued, “I come as a faithful representative of the American people, and we look forward to welcoming the world to the shores of Lake Michigan and the heartland of our nation in 2016."
