UP

With Disney PIXAR's newest release 'UP' they've created a movie so beautiful in terms of execution and plot, that you should really stop reading this review and go see it immediately. The movie is about love, loss and hope -- all while remaining screamingly funny and action-packed. UP will be loved by children, but even moreso by adults. Heed my words - don't read any further, just go see it.

UP is the story of 78-year-old Carl Frederickson, a balloon vendor at a theme park whose childhood hero, Charles Muntz, found a fabled lost continent. Muntz is discredited when scientists claim the skeleton of a giant bird Muntz brought back is a fake. Muntz declared he would bring back a live bird as proof, and was never heard from again. Carl, facing eviction from his home and interrment to a seniors' village, ties thousands of balloons to his home and heads off into the wild blue yonder in search of the fabled lost continent, Paradise Falls.

While UP is whimsical children's fare - it feels like the first of its kind to target the seniors with its moral messages. There is still plenty here for kids - dogs that can talk because of special collars, gaily-colored giant birds named 'Kevin', and physical humor. UP, however, keeps the laughs on the level, not resorting to scatalogical gross-outs to bring in the laughs. It feels like a Disney movie used to feel -- funny, but wholesome.

Adults will love the movie more because it has such heart and its characters feel so human that they will gladly believe that a house festooned with balloons can and should fly. Visually, the film is gorgeous. It's worth seeing in 3D but even without the film should be a pleasure to watch. Keep the 3D glasses as a souvenir - this is film you won't want to miss.

This film has it all: drama, action, comedy, romance - it is, simply put, one of the best films I've ever seen.

Is the rating system meant for the film, or for your review??

That's why I'm glad you're here, Rel.
An excellent question -- I'd say that the rating is for the movie, not my review.
But I should make that more clear somehow.

When I've done movie reviews(which I am about to do) the rating was meant for the film.

Updated -- the label for the rating has been changed from 'Rating' to 'Movie Rating' -- an improvement.

I wouldn't want a really horrific movie, lashed by a superb review (ahem, buffs nails), to mistakenly receive a high rating!
