Bee Movie

Jerry Seinfeld has been under the radar since Seinfeld went off the air, but he has resurfaced as the voice of the lead character in the animated film, Bee Movie.  Read more for a full review

We saw it at a Sunday matinee, where it cost but $5.50 per person, and it was not crowded, so plenty of good seats were available.  This had been the first film I had seen in the theater since Cars. Seinfeld voiced Barry B. Benson, an adolescent bee graduating into the bee workforce. When faced to choose his job in the hive - a choice he would be stuck with for the rest of his life - he rebels to the outside world, going out with the Pollen Jocks, and getting lost in a rainstorm.

He finds his way inside an open window, which closes leaving him trapped. He is almost killed by the male occupant (voiced by Patrick Warburton), until he is rescued by Vanessa Bloome (voiced by Renee Zellweger), girlfriend of the male and a florist by trade. Benson breaks a cardinal bee rule - never talk to Humans. He strikes up a conversation with Vanessa, they become friends, and he falls for her.  His parents and friends are dismayed, but he keeps visiting her anyway. He takes actions he thinks are helping all of bee-kind, by suing to free bees in cages, and return all honey to the bees. He did not comprehend the negative consequences, as his hive shuts down for no need to work, and as a result there is no more pollenization, resulting in withering flora.

Barry is forced to become a hero to reset what had gone wrong.  His fight takes him against a high-powered attorney voiced by John Goodman, and at the same time has to fight a comedy of errors. In the end, the whole experience matures Barry, who in the end gets his choice of job assignments - as one of the Pollen Jocks. It was a good film, the sequences were good, and the imagination involved in showing the inside of the hive is priceless.  The film flowed well, and there were plenty of cameo voice appearances adding comedic value, including by Chris Rock, Larry King, Ray Liotta, Sting and Oprah. Our 3 year old daughter loved the fim as well, and that made it all worth it.
