Brothers

Been awhile since I've been around here, so decided to review something I've seen recentley.

While everyone is out going ga ga over the movie AVATAR I decided not to see that movie and instead watch this because it seemed more interesting. This will be short and sweet.

It stars Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Sam Sheppard who plays the father of the two brothers.

The start of it shows Sam(Tobey Maguire) in the Marines coming home for leave, to his wife and kids and who is about to go back to Afghanistan.  Then he goes to get his brother Tommy(Jake Gyllenhaal) who is getting out of prison after serving time for bank robbery.

Hank played by Sam Sheppard and who I think is a great actor shows right off who is his favorite son.

Soon Sam goes to his fourth tour of duty in Afghanistan where not long after is reported killed in action after his helicopter is blown up and he becomes a POW. He goes through pure hell and horror after he is captured and tortured.  While back home his brother Tommy who is suppose to be looking after his wife, Grace starts falling in love with her, but are soon caught off guard when he turns up alive.

And that's when things get tense.  Tobey is excellent in this role, and in fact should be up for an Oscar because he flat out owns the messed up, war torn character and the different person he has become when he comes back home.

The suspense is off the charts when all three are in a room together and Sam is convinced they cheated. Sam's daughter hates what Sam has become and adds to the already life that's been turned upside down.

Overall it could have been done better, but it is a pretty good movie.  I would give it a B.

I gotta admit, I'm really

I gotta admit, I'm really surprised that Avatar is as well reviewed as it is so far. It's bizarre. The marketing really made it look like a real turd. Albeit, the most expensive turd ever captured on film.

This film however...hadn't even peaked my interest...a little digging revealed it's from the director of Get Rich or Die Tryin' not sure how I feel about that.

Well, Avatar has been seen

Well, Avatar has been seen and done a million times.  I'll watch it on DVD.

Ya I'll be catching it on dvd

Ya I'll be catching it on dvd myself. I'm in no hurry to dish out $15 for what looks like Dances with Wolves meets DELGO.
