GOP Calls Democratic Climate Bill 'Pile of Sh!t'
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) had some scatalogical remarks on the Democratic Climate Change Bill.
When asked why he read portions of the cap-and-trade bill on the floor Friday night, Boehner told The Hill, "Hey, people deserve to know what's in this pile of s--t."
Using his privilege as leader to speak for an unlimited time on the House floor, Boehner spent an hour reading from the 1200-plus page bill that was amended 20 hours before the lower chamber voted 219-212 to approve it.

What does it say about the Dems and their Whips, that of 252 seats, they could only muster 211 Dem votes?
And what does it say about the GOP that 8 members voted with the Dems, when those 8, if they had held, could have swung the vote the other way?
It seems near certain that this will never pass the Senate.

I hope that's the case, I really do. This bill would hamstring the American economy without even doing very much to help the environment.

There will be enough Dem Senators jumping ship, just like the house, to be able to sustain a filibuster. There are enough Dem Senators in GOP-leaning states with elections near... Who knows, maybe enough will jump ship to defeat it outright. But I suspect we'll see 4-5 Dems jump. In the house, they are all up for election next year, and many Dems in GOP-leaning districts know a vote for that bill would be certain political death. I suspect if it does pass the Senate, those same Dems, despite voting against it, would be on thin ice with their voters. At least one was mentioned on Levin friday night as openly hoping it passes without his vote. So the Dem was for it, but wanted to vote against it. Someone like Evan Bayh of Indiana comes to mind, or Byron Dorgan of North Dakota, or the guy who beat Pete Coors in 2004 in Colorado, or even Harry Reid himself out in Nevada. Ok, so after looking at the list of those Senators up next year... Maybe 4-5 is too high. But with the margin in the Senate, even 2-3 ought to be enough to sustain a filibuster.
